THE SPARKPLUG STORY
Kara Isert launched Sparkplug Coffee in 2014 out of a personal quest to share her love of really, really, good FRESH coffee, made at home. Armed with a vintage Vespa scooter and the simple belief that everyone deserves amazing coffee in their favorite mug, the brand was born.
As an e-commerce company, Sparkplug Coffee is devoted to personalized service, delivering consistently fresh, premium beans, not only to her neighbours in Toronto by vintage bicycle or Vespa, but to coffee lovers across Canada and the USA by mail.
Every week, Sparkplug’s beans are roasted to order, blended into Kara’s custom recipes, and shipped to coffee lovers all across the continent.
The growing Autopilot Coffee Club membership has devotees hooked on their regular deliveries, which are personalized to their individual coffee drinking habits. From sweet and balanced lighter roast (Road Trip) to dark and smoky (Bullit Custom Dark), there’s a bean for every coffee lover; including delicious low-caffeine (Low Voltage) and fully decaffeinated (Unleaded) options.
Kara is always looking for ways to support other women in business. Sparkplug Coffee’s cotton, reusable coffee filters (for pour over coffee and cold–brew coffee) are handmade by a local social enterprise, the Regent Park Sewing Circle, that supports new immigrant families. And, she has found a number of ways to support other small businesses and charity organizations through coffee sales and a fundraising program. Sparkplug’s partners can even get custom coffee labels!
Sparkplug Coffee has seen accolades in magazines such as Toronto Life, is the “Official Coffee of the Vespa Club of Canada,” and is the java of choice for various film and TV production crews in the city.
